emailed Feb 28, 2021:
Hello 2nd & 3rd grade families,
As the delivery of instruction shifts for learners this week, I wanted to let you know what to expect from me and the library for the remainder of the year.
As you may have heard, all 2nd and 3rd grade specialists will be shifting to ASYNCHRONOUS instruction.
This means no live library classes for the rest of the year.
What you need to know:
Starting tomorrow, library class is 100% on video. Your child will now attend library class by watching my recorded lesson during their teacher’s specialist time.
This is not something I have chosen; rather, it is what works given the multifaceted scheduling of remote/hybrid instruction.
The weekly library class video will be located in 2 places:
Clever (in the Library folder, under the category ‘Weekly Library Lessons’ and labeled by date)
Seesaw (in the Library folder under ‘Activities’)
Outside of the weekly lesson, additional assignments will be very minimal. This is intentional. Possible work includes sharing a photo of a book they like, responding to a critical thinking question, watching an extension video, or simply reading/looking at books.
The weekly library class video & any assignment will be updated and ready in both Seesaw & Clever by Monday at 9:30am.
Teaching children – either in person or via Zoom – is a joy. They bring enthusiasm and curiosity to each class…and that is dearly missed when teaching to a camera without a live group present. As I transition to fully asynchronous teaching, my goal is to be as energetic, passionate, and informative as possible. I invite you to watch library class with your child!
Finally, two quick questions that have been raised:
Will there be times or opportunities to connect live?
The short answer: I hope so.
How will check-out work now that some students are back in school?
100% remote students will still have curbside library once a month. We are exploring ways to connect hybrid students with library books while they’re at Sunset.
Know that I strive to make everything I do equitable. As I navigate the new schedules and changes, I’ll keep you updated via email and/or Seesaw.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Ms Arika
PS: YES! The bonus read-alouds will continue to be available; however, moving forward, these will be linked in Clever.
