Grade 1 students have been celebrating DiNovember in library. This unit includes reading stories about dinosaurs, learning where to find dinosaur books, researching about dinosaurs using our PebbleGo database, and coding with the Daisy the Dinosaur free app!

During Hour of Code week in early December, students were able to use our iPads to program Daisy to perform different functions using drag-and-drop code commands. With a bit of practice and persistence, many were able to complete the Challenge course during library class!

The Daisy the Dinosaur app is FREE in the iOS app store and appropriate for grades PreK - 2. According to Khan Academy, Hour of Code is "a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming". And while we did not have a full hour of time in library, we DID have a fully enjoyable coding experience!
